How to identify and choose a DIN 3015 clamp Clamps are an economic solution for safely and easily fastening pipes and hoses, but how do you choose an ideal clamp?

DIN 3015 fastening clamps make assembly effective and economical, and guarantee defined pipe conduction. The system can be applied to multiple areas and sectors of industrial activity, but to do so it is essential to understand the product’s range, composition, and characteristics.

The clamp is made up of two identical halves that clamp the pipe, cable, or hose, and maintain the exterior measurement of the object that must be clamped. The clamp’s material will depend on the circuit’s pressure, temperature, and the location where it is installed.

The inner face of the clamp is manufactured with ribs or with a smooth surface. In this sense, clamps with ribs offer dampening against jolts and vibrations and absorb forces that act in the direction of the pipe’s axis, while clamps with a smooth inner surface are recommended for fastening flexible pipes and cables.

MATERIALS

Series A, B, and C clamps have metal parts: the weld plates are phosphated while upper plates are bichromated. All steel parts can also be supplied in AISI316Ti (1.4571) stainless steel.

The materials used to manufacture the body of the clamps are:

– Polypropylene: green colour

– Polyamide 6: black colour

– Solid rubber: black colour

– Aluminium

DESCRIPTION AND ASSEMBLY OPTIONS

RAW MATERIAL

Pipe clamps are produced mainly from thermoplastic rubber.

ADVANTAGES

They offer significant improvements in terms of noise dampening and vibration behaviour.

THE IMPORTANCE OF ENSURING THE QUALITY OF MATERIAL USED

Using only quality materials, we guarantee:

  • Reduced vibrations with a subsequent reduction in noise
  • Resistance to the elements and ageing
  • Deterioration through use is avoided, given the elasticity of the material used
  • Resistance against a great number of chemical substances
  • A wide margin of application with regard to ranges of temperatures

ASSEMBLY

Assembly on weld plates

Weld theweld plates on a base that is suited for the load. Pay attention to the orientation of the clamps.

Restrain the lower half of the clamp on theweld plate, insert the pipe, place the second half of the clamp on top, and tighten it with the bolts. Pay attention to the pre-tension (the clamp halves should not be in contact after assembly).

Never weld with the plastic clamp already placed!

Assembly on pipe holder ducts

There are 4 different heights with pipe holder ducts, and 1 or 2 m long pieces are usually provided.

Weld the pipe holder duct or tighten it with an angular fastening piece.

Insert the pipe holder duct nuts into the duct and turn them as far as possible. In the heavy construction series, you should only insert them.

Restrain the lower half of the clamp on the duct pipe holder bolts, insert the pipe, place the second half of the clamp, and fasten it with the bolts. Before tightening the bolts, the clamp can be positioned. Pay attention to the pre-tension (the clamp halves should not be in contact after assembly).

Overlaid assembly

The clamps allow for assembly with various clamps of the same construction size, but also different pipe diameters, with one on top of the other. This overlaid assembly is carried out with special bolts that protect against torsion through safety plates.

Restrain the lower half of the clamp on theweld plate, insert the pipe, place the second half of the clamp on top, and tighten it with the bolts. This bolt extends out over the upper half of the clamp. By placing a guard plate on top, possible torsion from this bolt is avoided.

SPECIFIED TORQUE FOR SCREWS AND PIPE CLAMPING AXIAL FORCES

The values for the specified torque for screws and pipe clamping axial forces refer to assembly with cover plates and exterior hexagonal bolts according to the ISO standard 4014/4017 (DIN 931/933).

The pipe clamping axial force (according to DIN 3015, part 10) is an average value that is determined based on three trials at 23°C with a St 37 steel pipe according to DIN 2448, for which the existence of friction from adherence is presumed. When a load from the clamp is noted in the axial direction of the pipe with the test force (F) indicated, the tube should not slide inside the clamp.

RECOMMENDED DISTANCES BETWEEN CLAMPS

The distances assigned to the various outer pipe diameters are considered to be standard values for the static load.

A year of strengthening Leku-Ona’s global industrial services 2016 ends on a good note after reaching important milestones within the corporate group.

Within a few days of bidding farewell to the year, we feel obliged to look back and take stock of the work and achievements made by Leku-Ona during 2016.

captura-de-pantalla-2016-12-15-a-las-16-26-31

Following the change of facilities in August 2015, Leku-Ona prepared to enter a new phase in 2016, establishing itself as a leading international company capable of providing services and products adapted to the needs of both national and international clients.

The commitment to continually improving our services has been the focus of this year. Achievements include increasing the public opening times in the warehouse (Monday to Thursday from 06:00 to 22:00 and Friday from 06:00 to 21:00) and the new implementation of software in the robotised warehouse system, which provides immediate delivery of products to clients who use the direct sales desk and in turn reduces the loading, unloading and waiting times for clients and carriers.

In addition, after summer the Leku-Ona group made one of its most significant investments for 2016 in equipment for the machining division: the Bost VTL 25 CY multitasking double turret vertical lathe, a high-precision machine and piece of technology ‘expressly designed to meet the high standards demanded in the wind energy sector’. Its installation was discussed in the industry magazine Interempresas.

Furthermore, around the beginning of 2017 we will have a GMTK VL 2.8 X2400 lathe (swing of 2800 mm and a height of 2400 mm) fully operational in what we consider a clear strategic commitment to the wind energy sector.

The quality demands in the machining process of the parts that we manufacture for our clients has prompted the adaptation and climate control of the entire machining section. This guarantees a constant temperature during manufacturing as well as in the zone containing tri-dimensional measuring machines.

We also have a clear commitment to demonstrating Leku-Ona’s project capabilities to the national and international market. What’s more, the launch of a YouTube channel increases the visibility of Leku-Ona Global Solutions and each of the different companies that form part of the group (Leku-Ona, MKL, Urtzinox and Bostak). The channel provides videos on work processes, facilities and methodologies used for all those interested in finding out more.

Despite being aware of Leku-Ona’s clear capacity to access the international market and large projects, we have not given up our active participation in various sporting events tied to the tradition and culture of our surroundings, such as the Idi Probak in Errezil and the Getaria-Zarautz swim crossing.

Getaria Zarautz 2016 from Pergoi on Vimeo.

So, we can bid farewell to 2016 feeling proud of the work carried out by each of the group’s companies, of the effort made and of the results achieved.

All that’s left now is to keep working with a view to improving even more in 2017.

We’ll see each other soon!

The advantages of installing flexible stainless steel hoses At Leku-Ona, we custom manufacture flexible stainless steel hoses for our clients

flexibles1

For years, Leku-Ona has specialised in products and fittings for low, medium, high and very high pressure hydraulic oil systems. This is why flexible stainless steel hoses have become the best ally for tackling projects with very special characteristics in extreme conditions, which is what usually happens in sectors such as the machine tool, maritime, steelworks and farming industries, to name a few.

flexibles2At our site in Itziar (Deba), we offer corrugated hoses without mesh, or with one or two layers of mesh. They can withstand temperatures of -270 ºC to 600 ºC and compensate for the thermal expansion or contraction in the hose system.

These kinds of hoses are also resistant to fire, humidity, abrasion, penetration and damage which may arise in the environment where they are being used due to their excellent anti-corrosion properties and their high physical strength.

Nevertheless, this resistance does not prevent them from being tailored to places and areas which are difficult to access, which is why they have come to play an important role in all kinds of industrial applications.

At Leku-Ona Global Solutions, we custom manufacture flexible stainless steel hoses for our clients, personalising the product as much as possible so that it meets the specific needs of each client and satisfies the characteristics of each project.

Leku-Ona extends its opening hours and improves the immediate material delivery service The warehouse in Itziar already has an immediate material delivery service to reduce waiting times among customers at the direct sales counter

With the aim of improving the productive processes of the Leku-Ona Group, we have recently introduced improvements in the 8,500 m2 robotised warehouse system that Leku-Ona has at its headquarters in Itziar to be able to offer the immediate material delivery service.

The automation of handling brings improvements in productivity by reducing the times of the operations, mistakes and by updating a daily inventory of the stored products in record time, something our customers value as it also makes their work processes more profitable.

With this new implementation of software in the robotised warehouse system, the delivery of material to customers that go to the direct sales counter is immediate, with the result that we manage to reduce the loading, unloading and waiting times of customers and delivery drivers, as the system prioritises the delivery of material to these people over the daily processing of orders.

New opening hours

Continuing with Leku-Ona’s policy of offering the best possible service to customers, we have extended our opening hours. Thus, we are at the disposal of our customers during an uninterrupted timetable:

Monday to Thursday: 06:00-22:00

Friday: 06:00-21:00

We don’t close during August!

Finally, the company will be open throughout August, except on Monday 15, uninterruptedly from 08:00 to 17:30, Monday to Friday.

How to fit a flexible hose From Leku-Ona we give you a few key pieces of advice on how to correctly measure and fit a flexible hose

If a few weeks ago we issued the keys to knowing what kind of hose should be fitted to each machine, today we share a number of essential aspects to be taken into account when fitting the flexible hose.

General aspects to be taken into account:

  • When the flexible hose is in use, its length can vary from +2% to -4%. Take care to ensure that the length of the flexible hose is not equal to the distance to be connected and that it is working in traction mode.
  • Do not bend the hose into a radius smaller than indicated on the characteristics table; this will prevent excessive fatigue and/or reductions in flow through the hose. If excessively curved, the hose reinforcement may be prevented from working uniformly, thereby weakening its properties.
  • Each installation must also be fitted with the most appropriate terminals, thereby avoiding overly small or large curves and making for easy maintenance of the installation. If the hose is fitted in a position where it could come into contact with metallic parts or situations of friction, it must be fitted with plastic or metal protection (Protecplast or Protecmuelle).

The flexible hose must not be exposed to direct heat. If it is, it must be protected using Protecfuego

How to measure the hose

According to the DIN and SAE standards, flexible hoses can vary in length from +2% above size to -4% below size, depending on the working pressure. It is therefore advisable to consider this variation in evolution of the final hose length. On the other hand, a tolerance of +/-3% must be observed in the length obtained.

manguera01

Relative angle for terminals

In the case of hoses with 2 bends the relative angle between terminals must be determined (tolerance +/-3%). In the graph we indicate the most common positions and their angles with four letters (A-B-C-D).

How to fit the hose

The flexible hose should work between the theoretical pressure limits and the bending radius according to the tables indicating such data. The hose must not be twisted and its length in comparison to the terminal must be at least six times the tube diameter.

The terminal type used should reduce the number of bends in the hose to a minimum. In the graphs we give examples of right and wrong connections.

mangueras02

Chains and safety clamps

Finally, one very important element to consider when installing the hose is safety, both of the people fitting it and of the installation itself. Thus, to prevent potential disconnection of the hose, it is highly advisable to install a system consisting of a cable, chain or safety clamp in order to retain the hose and thereby prevent causing harm and damage to the installation.
