In addition to the corporate video that explains in a very original way its complete range of solutions for industry, the Youtube channel by Leku-Ona Global Solutions also shows the work processes for different solutions, such as for example pipe bending.

In connection with the Machine-tool Biennial in Bilbao (BIEMH) at the end of this month, the Interempresas review has brought out a special issue in which, among other subjects, it mentions one of the most important investments in machinery made by Leku-Ona in 2016: the Bost VTL 25 CY multitasking double-turret vertical lathe.

As explained by the head of the Leku-Ona group, Álex Zabala, the Bost VTL 25 CY (turnkey developed) is a high precision and technology machine “expressly designed to meet the high standards demanded by the wind power sector” with a maximum turning diameter of 3100 mm.

For the time being, “this state-of-the-art machine will be exclusively dedicated to producing work for one of our customers; a reference company in the manufacture of wind turbines which already collaborates with other divisions of the Leku-Ona Global Solutions Group” and which “has placed its trust in us to machine wind generator planet carriers”, the part that conveys the movement of the wind generator blades to the multiplier.

Everything in this lathe is specially developed and designed by Bost Machine Tools to meet the high standards demanded by the wind power sector: the machine includes a “y” axis for greater versatility when manufacturing parts of high complexity, and provides the flexibility necessary to tackle this and future projects.

Completing the investment is a metrology machine purchased from HEXAGON MEROLOGY. The machine in question is a DEA Delta Performance 3D high-precision Gantry with a useful range of 3000x5100x2000mm and a fixed-head Ultra High Accuracy LEITZ X5HD for point by point and continuous measurement.

Technical aspects

The Bost VTL 25 CY is a vertical double-turret multi-tasking milling machine with a mobile crosspiece and lengthwise movement of the chuck. The hydrostatic axis guiders guarantee excellent precision and the absence of vibrations which, together with an over-dimensioned design, gives its structure extra rigidity and strength and high machining capacity.

The turning capacity is up to 3100 mm, chuck axis Y= +/- 1000 mm, a part working height of H2200 mm, with a maximum permissible load of 12 tonnes and a voltage of 74 kW means that the lathe can machine parts of very large size, as is the case. Its tool spindle ram has an octagonal section and thermo-symmetric design of 310 x 310 mm, with a run of Z = 1250, a voltage of 37 kW and 4000 rpm.

It also has an automatic accessory and tool change, is equipped with a part measuring sensor, several milling heads and a number of turning tool heads with a complete guard system.

Leku-Ona boosts its formed tube business with new investments that will enable it to specialise in bending complex tubes, such as the INCONEL type Formed tubes ensure hydraulic facilities last longer, making the circuit safer and preventing any leakage and impurities that can be caused by welding.

Leku-Ona is always keen to innovate and adapt to the current market, and as part of this objective, it has boosted its formed tube business, investing in advanced machinery, including a BLM E-TURN (ET 52) electric bender that can bend tubes with diameters of up to OD: 52 mm. This will enable Leku-Ona to provide global tube-bending solutions to companies from different sectors who require this type of service.

INCONEL TUBE FORMING

Among the most complex tube alloys to bend we find the INCONEL alloy (nickel-chromium-iron), which is a common material used in engineering applications that require high resistance to corrosion and heat. This alloy also has excellent mechanical properties as well as an interesting combination of high hardness and good machinability, although it is unusual to find companies that master the bending process of INCONEL tubes.

Leku-Ona has a wide range of machines for bending tubes at its facilities, which enables it to work with diameters ranging from OD: 6 mm up to OD: 60 mm to bend carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, brass or INCONEL tubes, meaning the hydraulic facilities last longer.

Chromium awards it resistance to sulphur compounds and also resistance in oxidation conditions at high temperatures or in corrosive solutions.

The installation type, the working temperature, chemical resistance, etc, are all decisive factors when selecting the correct hydraulic hose according to the case in question. For that reason, we at Leku-Ona wish to offer you several tips to consider when selecting the ideal hose.

1.Type of installation

The selection and installation of a hose is always conditional on the pressure of the circuit to be connected, working cycles, whether continuous or using a water hammer, the interior diameter of the hose and the type of fluid to be used.

 

2. Working pressure

According to standards UNI ISO, DIN and SAE, the recommended working pressure ratio is 1:4.

 

3. Water hammer

A flexible hose that can increase the safety factor is a must in installations where the pressure cycles can undergo sharp increases. By contrast, a minimum safety factor is sufficient in cases where there is an occurrence of mild bumps or none at all.

 

4. Working temperature

The working temperature indicated on each type of flexible hose is the maximum for the fluid that passes through it (with higher temperatures tolerated for short periods of time).

Constant work at the maximum temperature reduces the hose’s service life.

 

5. External temperature

Heat emissions or excess cold in the proximity of the flexible hose could damage the external coating and the reinforcement, with a negative effect on its life.

 

6. Volumetric expansion

According to national and international standards.

 

7. Gaseous fluids

Care must be taken when selecting the hose for high pressure gaseous applications as well as with chemical facilities. However, in this case, it may be a good idea to protect the hose to prevent any accidental breakage. The safety coefficient should be raised.

 

8. Chemical resistance

Press reports on the new Leku-Ona headquarters in Itziar

At the end of 2015, several members of the media reported on the Leku-Ona group’s work and how it was performing in its new facilities. All the group’s production lines (Leku-Ona, MKL Machining and Urtzinox) are now operating in the Itziar plant (Deba) to provide global solutions to the industry automation sector.

Just a few days after moving to Itziar, Logi-News (media specialising in news on the logistics and transport sector) and the Cadena de Suministro (Supply Chain) newsletter reported that Leku-Ona had started working at its new headquarters, mentioning the practicality of putting the offices, work areas and stores for all the group’s companies within the same facility.

Alternately, in November 2015, Fluidos O.N.A. magazine interviewed the director of the Leku-Ona group, Álex Zabala, who discussed details of the business units, future challenges, the sector’s current situation and the advantages of the group’s new headquarters in Itziar, among other issues.
